October 2002

I'm finishing up a 6-month furlough -- will return to Zimbabwe 11/29/02. Please contact me for latest news.

If you'll send me your e-mail address I'll send news via e-mail. That's cheaper than by air mail. If you have a Macintosh, I can also send pictures in color you can enjoy. Or if you can view them in Macintosh formats on your IBM PC, let me know and I'll forward the pictures.

July 2001

Dear friends and family, This has been an exciting time in the life of Masvingo Christian Church. We moved into the new building at Easter time and we have had 100 or more for every Sunday Morning Service since. Easter the attendance was 286. Dedication Sunday June 3 we had 323. July 15 we are calling our assembly a Unity Service. The Rujeko and Mucheke congregations have been invited to join us. Mucheke and Rujeko are high density housing areas of Masvingo. Their combined choir sang for the dedication service and they are to sing again for this service. These congregations have their church services in the Shona language but most of their members speak English as well as Shona.

I have been working on a newsletter to print and send out but it keeps getting side-tracked. Alice Fishback and Joyce Morris will be arriving tomorrow from Johannesburg, South Africa to spend about a week with me. This is the first time that I have had overnight guests in my new house.

We had less political violence than some areas when we elected a new mayor. There were 5 candidates running. Three did not get many votes. The ruling party (Zanu PF) came in second and the Movement for Democratic Change Party candidate won. The national two-day strike the first week in July was not as violent as at other times.

Zimbabwe Christian College is planning to build an administration building to move the administration out of the present building and leave more rooms available for housing students. I have been assessing the size of the present offices and library and trying to determine what they need. I have drawn up plans so that they know the size building needed and can figure the price according to the area. Mr. Makusha and Mr. Sithole will be travelling to the USA to present the news to the churches.

CAMELS has been having trouble with the guillotine and the numbering machine. I have been preparing some cards and a tract in Swahili. Some of these have been printed and when Mavuto comes to Zimbabwe for a visit he will bring other things to be printed. We are also looking at a new location for CAMELS. We need wisdom to make the right decisions.

Praise for our new building and the way it is being used to bring people together to hear the gospel. Praise that Zimbabwe Christian College is expanding to be prepared to teach more students. Praise that the political violence has been less recently. But pray for the people on the farms. Pray for wisdom in making decisions for CAMELS. Pray that I might get the newsletter with pictures out soon.

In Christian Love, -- Marcia Kay Thomson
